The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team remained unbeaten and marched on to the semifinals of the Region IV Division II tournament with a 2-0 quarterfinal victory over Oakton on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Galesburg High School’s Van Dyke Field.

Luis Cuevas (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Vocational Bernardino Cordero) opened the scoring and assisted on Sandburg’s second goal as the second-seeded Chargers (5-0-1) advanced to host third-seeded Morton in the semifinals at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Cuevas broke the ice in the 26th minute as he cleaned up a centering pass by Guylberson Camille (Key West, Fla./Key West).

Matheus Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Brasil Objectivo) doubled the Chargers’ lead early in the second half on a give-and-go with Cuevas as he rifled a shot from 20 yards out in the 48th minute.

Iker Sanchez (Miami, Fla./Immaculata LaSalle) and Kale Stevenson (Cowdenbeath, Scotland/Cowdenbeath) each made two saves in net to combine for a clean sheet. Sandburg outshot the Owls (1-6) 15-8 and had eight shots on goal to Oakton’s four.
